Just picked up the van

Well what an adventure…despite a bit of random thievery on the boat on the way back and extensive use of our vans facility’s by the crew, the van is now safely back in England. MOT’d, Serviced, Repaired where necessary and ready to roll on the next stage of the plan.
We have decided that the next trip wont be another 12 month-er so Summer 2012 to Turkey and East is on the cards giving us time to gather our strength

My wife, Juliet Hurst, met up with an old friend of hers, Nigel Allsop, recently and he told us about your travels and website. We are also planning a few long trips in our campervan (not as rugged as yours, nor equipped for such rough terrain), but we will do Morrocco in April 2013 on an escorted tour at first so we have help at hand if needed. After that it is Turkey in the Autumn, unescorted as I know the country and language reasonably well (lived there in the early 80s working for BP).
We were fascinated by your trip and as we are probably similar age (mid 50s), quite inspired by it.
Hope your next trip is as wonderful as your first. We will keep looking at your site to track your next journey.
    Regards, Gerald & Juliet

sounds a wonderful adventure, my wife and I have been contemplating a long trip for a while, just getting our youngest through GCSE’S in Bath, and while we are still young enough to enjoy it. I was looking for a four wheel drive tough camper and the sprinter seems to fit the bill.

  4. Hi there
Firstly – great website. Thanks for putting it together.

I’m looking at getting a merc sprinter converted to 4×4 in order to drive home (originally from SA) next year.

Quick question re converting it to 4×4. Is there anyone that does it in the UK and what did you pay for the conversion?

    All the best
    Shaun

Great reading your adventures! Wonder if you can give me some advice. I am heading off to the Americas in November with my UK reg Sprinter and intend to be away for more than a year. Do you know the regulations about keeping a UK registered vehicle licensed in the UK if one is going to be away for more than a year, as getting an MOT is out of the question if one is not in the UK. For the USA one needs US insurance and the only way to get this is to have the vehicle registered and licensed in the country of origin. Year one will be OK, but then after that…….? Would appreciate your advice, if you have any input. Best wishes with further travels, John.
