Okonjima and on to South Africa

After the luxury of Okonjima we returned to Windhoek to stay in a backpacker hotel called the Cardboard Box…all of us in a family room but we did splurge on a meal at the famous Joe’s Beer House!

After dropping the children off at the airport Lucy and I set off towards South Africa we stopped at Duwisib an extraordinary pseudo medieval castle in the middle of nowhere built in the 1900’s by a mad German aristocrat who went off to fight in the Great War and was killed at the Somme two weeks after joining up. He only lived in the castle for a couple of years and his wife never returned after he was killed.

We also stopped off at the hot springs at Ey Eis where we bumped into Charley Boorman and his team on their way to Vic Falls. Lots of motorbikes but I think some of them were jealous of the van.
Then on to South Africa and the fabulous flowers in Namaqualand which stretch for miles and miles

and of course the beautiful town of Darling and its vineyards.
for those that dont know Darling is Lucy’s maiden name so it was a must do!

a small family business!

    Hello!

Today we bought a small pack of Lurpack, and we were wondering how you are doing?
Did you get home safely in the UK? Do you enjoy it back home? Is it nice to see everyone again? Where is the Van?

We saw the pics from you and the kids. It looked really lovely!

We are doing fine here in rainy Holland. The grass is green as never before 🙂
We still love our house, that softens the pain. Jarijn started his own business, teaching/consulting. He is doing quite well. Earning the same, working less. I have been really busy. So we are saving for our next trip probably India during Christmas & NY. When we haven’t been working we went to the Lowlands festival and had lovely dinners with friends.

We were wondering, do you have a post address?
    Love, Jarijn & Charis

I just recently retired and I am planning to embark on a journey like yours. Perhaps you do not mind if you can give me some pointers on how you where able to secured visas from countries you visited? And about shipping the vehicle is their a permanent company or broker you are in contact that arranged everything. Or you just take care of it as you go along? At an average what is the cost of shipping a vehicle from one continent to another?
I would appreciate any information you could impart on this matter. Thank you.

    Sam
